Believe it or not, there ARE some schools across the country that are year round. I lived in Iowa for about 6 months or so and had my oldest son enrolled in a public, year-round school. Granted we weren't there long enough to really see the benefits of it but I fell in love with the idea from the start. People get so freaked out by the term "year-round school" but what they don't realize is it's more or less the same number of attendance days...the breaks are just split up different. Instead of getting a week for spring break, you get two. Same for Thanksgiving. And add a week to the CHRISTMAS break as well. There are still the other holidays that "regular" school gets too. Summer break is actually shortened...by how much exactly I don't remember but I would think it would be a good thing for parents...don't have to worry about kids being home alone or finding stuff for them to do etc etc. People need to do some research about stuff before immediately rejecting it because it goes against "the norm".
